Who we are
My Church Calls provides daily devotional and wellbeing check-in phone calls for churches and families caring for housebound, elderly and isolated people. This policy explains how we collect, use and protect personal data, in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR), the EU GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
The data we collect
We collect only what we need to deliver the service you ask for: the name, phone number, timezone and call preferences of each member; the consent record confirming they agreed to be called; call outcomes (for example, whether they pressed 1 to confirm they are well); optional prayer requests or messages they choose to leave; and the contact details of church teams and family 'care circle' members who should receive alerts.
How we use it
We use this data solely to place the daily calls you have set up, to check on wellbeing, and to alert the right people if a call is missed or help is requested. We also use account and billing details to manage your subscription. We do not sell personal data, and we never use it for third-party advertising.
Consent first
No member is ever called until their consent has been recorded by the church or family enrolling them. Consent can be withdrawn at any time — a member can also press 9 during any call to stop future calls immediately.
Lawful basis
We process personal data on the basis of consent (for calling members) and legitimate interests / contract (to provide the service to the church or family account holder). Where we rely on consent, it can be withdrawn at any time.
Storage & security
Data is stored securely with encryption in transit, hosted on reputable cloud infrastructure, and logically separated so each church or family can only access their own records. Card payments are handled entirely by Stripe; we never see or store full card details.
Sharing
We share data only with the service providers needed to run the service — for example our telephony provider (to place calls), our email provider (to send alerts and summaries) and Stripe (for payments) — under contracts that require them to protect it. We may disclose data if required by law.
Your rights
You have the right to access, correct, export or delete personal data, to restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise any of these, email us at hello@mychurchcalls.com and we will respond promptly.
Cookies & consent
We use only strictly necessary cookies — the ones needed to keep you securely signed in and to run the site. We do not use advertising, analytics or cross-site tracking cookies. Because these cookies are essential to providing the service you request, they do not require consent, but visitors in the UK and EU/EEA are shown a banner where they can accept or reject non-essential cookies, and we keep a record of that choice. You can change your mind at any time by clearing your browser cookies for this site.
Supervisory authority & complaints
If you are in the UK, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk. If you are in the EU or EEA, you may complain to your local data protection authority. We would always encourage you to contact us first at hello@mychurchcalls.com so we can try to put things right.
Retention
We keep personal data only for as long as the account is active or as needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations. When you close an account, we delete or anonymise personal data within a reasonable period.
Not an emergency service
My Church Calls is a wellbeing and companionship service. It complements, and never replaces, emergency services or medical care. If you believe someone is in danger, contact your local emergency services immediately.
